Engorged HD LCD Screen On laptop worth the money?

I'm planning to get a laptop/notebook (Dell or Acer). What I can't decide is if the cost of upgrading to a satiated LCD with a screen size of 15 or 17 inches is worth it? Is there a minimum screen size required to view HD content?
