Can a Laptop warhorse be fixed if it is broken?

Hiya, my laptop charger wire is spiral over itself, becoming tight and the plastic covering is breaking. I'm worried that the wires internal will get injured. If this does happen can i convey the charger in for repair? Or do I must get a new one? My laptop isn't brand new so where could I find one compatiable? Thanks for any abet :)
