Typing German characters on a laptop keyboard?

Most laptops have a number pad imbedded within the regular keys, routinely the yuihjknm, keys. That pad is toggled (activated) by either a function key or a combination of keystrokes. The toggle key varies with manufacturer. Activity reading the extremity for your tool. If you have zero manual, try Yahoo search for "laptop number pad keys toggle" or similar search.

You probably know that the alt knob is used with the num pad to get the foreign characters. Example: for ö (o umlaut) use alt num wipe 148.
