This is what I'm taking to my 5 week reporting trip to Japan. High Sierra 35L backpack Item checklist: - passport - wallet - laptop/charger (w/appropriate adaptor, none needed for Japan) - camera/charger/lens - poncho/jacket - clothes (one pair of extra pants, couple of shirts. you can buy clothes at your destination if necessary) - toiletries (US deodorant is a must-have item for the humid Japanese summer, toothbrush, shampoo, soap) - sunscreen - one pair of extra shoes (mine's a flipflop)
