keyboard on laptop stop engaged

i reinstall vista and my keyboard on my other laptop won't work. I'm stuck on person name and password, it won't highlite next till i put in a user name. i tried everything. It works solely within the outset when i load from disk and format but once it done and it restarts nil! It work in bios but thats it. please help. its a dell inspiron 1525
