Can i use the DvD/Cd drive from my laptop to run something to my netbook via double ended usb line?

My netbook OS is busted...
the company that made it sent me rescue disks and I do not really want to to spend 50 dollars next to an external USB DVD/CD drive...
can i possibly use the DVD/CD drive from my gateway laptop to burn the disks to the netbook?
I mortal i of those Dual Complete USB cords...
