Check the charging light - does the laptop indicate that it's getting power and charging when the charger is plugged in?

If yes, you need a new battery. (Batteries should last from 18-24 months - thing more is a bonus.) If it shuts off at 25%, it sounds like a bad battery. (The battery goes from 25% to 5% because you have a cell that is shorting once you try to draw it down to little than 25% ticket.)
