My laptop surface keeps getting lush pixels wherever the black should be....?

I soul a HP 6710b laptop, the surface is fine once on a flat surface such as a array, but when it is my lap Or the bed the screen sometimes gets green pixels where the black should be. When you pull the surface guardant slightly (pull the 'slack' out), they disappear and re-emerge once I let go. So I am assuming it is meet a loose connection somewhere. Is it price trying to mend it myself as it doesn't have a warranty?
