How do I free heavens on top of my recovery hard disc drive?

i have already used disk killing and defrag multiple times, and it has not worked......so i was wondering what i could manually delete......likewise i heard something about backup recovery files (clones) could take up extra space just a fyi. *any aid would be greatly appreciated*
