First of all, dont take it to Geek Squad, ever. Find a local computer repair ensemble with a good reputation. They module be more knowledgeable, and much cheaper. Geek Squad is a huge ripoff.
Ordinal, it has to be either the backlight or the inverter. Once I did repair for a living, we would always order an inverter original since they're markedly cheap (usually 10-20 bucks) and replace that. If it didnt work, we would just not charge the customer, and replace the backlight, which normally means buying an entire new intrinsic screen, because they're (for the most part) all one piece.
EBay would be the best place to purchase a replacement eyeshade for most models, as its active to be cheaper than purchase from the manufacturer or a third body site.
Provided it turns out you need to replace the eyeshade, though, even relatively inexpensive screens (with labor at a shop) are probably active to run you up a few hundred bucks. Depending on how much the laptop is worth, it May beryllium more than worthwhile to simply buy a new one.
