Why does my laptop fan continuously hum EXTREMELY LOUDLY?

Even though i have it approved up on 2 books so theres like flying flow underneath it, even when i soul no programs running, my laptop fan is ever going SO STRIDENT and it gets superheated, then when i try to actually start something, say firefox, it goes into hyper mode and the fan blows therefore loud i can barely perceive myself writing. its terrible
