Laptop Problems

I have a relative's IBM Thinkpad here.

The personal, once it starts uphill, usually throws an error involving a stuck key (0210, key 2c). If I manage to make the BIOS Setup Utility, it's useless, any keypresses result in a beep and I can not scroll up or down the menus.

I tried using my flash drive for Linux Mint but no dice, since I cannot change the boot order.
