Why does my DVD drive's read rate dwindle to 0?

I have not long got new laptop with a DVD super Multi DL Drive, but I can't seem to read DVD's properly. The read rate would start from 3.5x then dwindle fallen to nothing (0.0x), the actuation stops reading aft 2 or 3 minutes.

Any ideas on how to fix it?
