Connecting a non-HDMI laptop to a HDTV w/ HDMI?

Ok you want to use a vga cable for video (http://www.chinawholesalegift.com/pic/El… and a 3.5mm jack for sound( http://www.oriongadgets.com/images/3.5mm… or get a vga to hdmi (http://specialtech.co.uk/spshop/files/de… and alternatively you can use speakers for sound instead.

After you connect to the cables I believe you press [fn] and f4(though it may be divergent on your laptop because you're sounding all for whatever button has the symbol that looks something like this: l[ ]l on it. It looks like a monitor. That will basically tell the computer to transfer the imitation to your tv instead of the laptop monitor. Your laptop screen should then travel blank and the image will hop to the hdtv. Hope this helps!
