Is there a way to reconnect a laptop device cable connector (locking mechanism)?

Past mistake I yanked the ribbon out, without lifting (and thusly unlocking) the connector piece and now yes, the ribbon's out, but so is the connector. Putting the ribbon in as it should be and closely taping both it and the connector in place did not seem to carry out. Only ii buttons work now, the numberpad Up and Down.
