What can I do if my computer lcd turns dark and translucent when started?

I have an Advent laptop computer. Sometimes once I start it the LCD turns dark (black) and all desktop icons are seen simply with difficult. The dark LCD seems to Be translucent and the icons are in view when I am at a strong light close to outside the house against sunny day. What can I do to stop this problem?
