untested laptop fan snags?

i just got a brand new hp dv2000 laptop... not even 6 months old... & the fan has been running constantly lately.... the last computer i had was much louder but it eventually made the computer completely unusable. For this one, the problem has been pretty gradual. it never used to do this once i first got it then it would do it maybe 2 or 3 short times later it started happening more regularly. just now both time i use it the fan faculty blow (around 1 sec element a time but over & over again) the only time it stops is provided it is in sleep mode or sour. what's up & how can i dig to cease ?
