How do I get my laptop display to flip after the battery dies and I plug it back within?

I have a Toshiba Outer C655D-S5300. When the battery is low, the display will automatically shut off, but I can hear music and such that is still going against my computer. I plug the laptop rear in, but I cannot get the display to come back on, even aft clicking the mouse and hitting a few keys.

Any suggestions? They would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
