Does MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2009) sanction 3TB drives?

I purchased a 3TB Seagate that only registered as ~800GB despite being GUID partitioned. Since I bought it through Amazon it was a no-hassle return, but I really want to upgrade current external INCURSION (Drobo) 4-Bay and going from 2TB drives to 3TB drives ::seemed:: the easiest option present that I'd installed the new firmaware that allows it to treasure >2TB drives as well. (NOTE: I attached the drive directly to the MacBook to double-check that it wasn't just the Drobo.)

Upon contacting Seagate (and Western Digital just to double check) I was assured the drive should have worked given my operative system (10.7.3) and the partitioning plan. Still, both stated that they cannot guarantee functionality with ALL system and that I should contact the hardware manufacturer to confirm that the motherboard of my specific laptop supports 3TB and above drives.

Does the 13-inch 2.13 GHz Core Duo White MacBook (Mid 2009) support >2TB drives or am I sounding at AN earlier than planned upgrade?
