dell xps m1330 laptop screen dim after palm rest and keyboard install.?

I recently ordered some parts online to fix a friends laptop. I replaced the palm rest and keyboard on his Dell xps m1330 laptop. I set it back together to what I had assumed was exactly how I opened I found that the screen brightness had decreased vastly. Even after using the function keys and going into the bios to increase brightness both say the computer is at max brightness yet I can barley see the screen while indoors. Any help on why this would happen or how to fix it would be much appreciated.
