Cleansing a laptop keyboard near a can of compressed air?

I read in my laptop's manual (it's an HP pavillion) that I should clean my laptop's upright with compressed air. However, I'm nervous about doing it because I feel that if I do it, all it's going to do is blow around dust and whatever inside my personal.

Where does all of the particles and dust and hair go when i use the air
