what uses more battery power on laptop. a external usb disk actuation for watching a DVD - or extenal hard drive?

Want to watch movies on my laptop when itinerant. My laptop does not have a built within saucer drive. So provided I take up a external hard saucer drive with a usb, use less battery power than watching the movie with an external videodisc drive?
