Laptop Charger overheats only when laptop is by?

Hi,

I have had a Dell Inspiron 1720 Laptop for two years now. Last period i noticed the charger getting strangely hot whilst charging. So hot in fact that aft 30 minutes its too hot to elevate .

I went onto the Dell website and paid £50 for a new warhorse for my laptop. However the trial remains. The brand new warhorse also overheats witin around 30 mins.... and is too broiling to gather up. So i don't think the charger is the problem but instead possibly something on the laptop.

When i turn the laptop off and put it on charge... both chargers ticket the laptop and do not heat. Within fact they stay quite cool. So the nuisance only happens when the laptop is on and working.

Incidentally the laptop never overheats and works very well throughout the charging process.

Any recommendations?
