XP crashed after Ubuntu Install and recovery not working since repair cd not recognizing the partition?

My friend had Win XP and he installed Ubuntu after creating a linux partition and a barter partition. But now the windows installation is not booting in and once repair CD is to be used all for recovering the XP it says that it cannot recogize the record. What should be done?
