What does it mean when there is AN "X" over my laptop battery in the power planner?

I am working on a used laptop that I just installed Windows XP Pro on using a bran-new hard drive.

I double click on the plug in the rightly appendage corner, and there is associate X over my battery. When I steal the artillery out, it says "not donation," so it is recognizing the battery.

When I look at the icon, there is no "lightning" here like there is on my other laptop.

Is the mobile colourful, or would a new battery have the same problem?

The laptop is an older Compaq Presario 2100, hence the freestyle could be worn out.

It just seems weird that it holds absolutely zero charge and that the "X" is there.
